Night Wings

Night Wings is a stunning photograph from New Mexico’s Bisti Wilderness. The Milky Way descending into hoodoos with wings provides a unique photograph you will cherish for years to come.

Story

New Mexico’s Bisti Wilderness contains oddly shaped hoodoos and rock formations. During the day, the fantastical landscape stretches as far as the eye can see. But, at night, the Bisti takes on a whole new perspective. Night Wings showcases two prominent hoodoo wings with the Milky Way in the background.

There are no lights, streets, or paths in the Bisti. Where you go is entirely up to you, and your meanderings will take you to hoodoos that defy the imagination. The hoodoos come in all shapes and sizes, some small, some large, and everything in between. Some are tall and skinny, while others are short and squat. Yet, hoodoos with wings are some of the most interesting.

The “wings” are cap rocks, or the hoodoo’s top rock, extending beyond the hoodoo itself. Most wings are tiny and barely overhang the hoodoo. Nevertheless, the hoodoos in Night Wings are large and exaggerated, making a dramatic photograph.

The Bisti, any time during the day or night, is full of wonder, and a journey there is always one of discovery and exploration.
