Story

The Colorado Plateau is a magical place, full of wonders. Some are easy to find, and some, much harder. Some, like White Pocket, are extremely difficult to get to. But once you do, you are part of a small handful of people who have, making the experience all the more precious. Significantly, after dark, with the sun long gone, the views become extraordinary. Astral Pocket is one of those views.

Here, we’re in the heart of White Pocket, looking toward a feature colloquially called “The Cathedral.” Above the Cathedral is the Milky Way in all of its glory. There are no city lights to detract from it, mostly because there aren’t any large cities anywhere close. In fact, there’s nothing close at all, which is perfect when looking for dark skies.

And, Astral Pocket showcases the twisting and sinuous shapes White Pocket is known for. The lines, carved over eons into the sandstone, flow endlessly, taking you on a journey with the eye. The rock cascades as if by magic into ever-fantastic shapes.
