Story

The night was cold—the kind of cold that only an Alaskan night in February can be. The wind kept me company and made sure I wasn’t able to remain comfortable for long. That’s OK, though, for I was antsy, waiting to see if the aurora borealis would appear. Luckily, I didn’t have to wait long, and Mountain’s Aurora sprang to life!

Photographed over a distant mountain range north of Fairbanks, Alaska, Mountain’s Aurora swept and danced in. The aurora filled the sky with unbelievable colors. I love how the typical green colors stayed on the left and right sides and gave way to the reds and yellows in the middle. The colors were bright enough to light up the entire landscape and even reflected off the snow.

You never know how long the aurora will last. Occasionally, the lights weave and dance in the sky for what seems an eternity. At other times they last only moments. This display lasted just long enough for me to create this one photograph, but that suited me perfectly.

Mountain’s Aurora dazzles me to this day!
