Story

Alaska’s solitude is unparalleled, and no place offers an easier way to “get away from it all” than here. It’s wide open spaces that are human-free and limitless. And that applies to its waters, too. And when you’re on a sailboat with the full moon rising, there’s no better scene than Frederick Moon.

This particular evening was calm, and even the breezes decided to take the night off. The full moon crept ever-so-gently over the distant horizon, glowing a beautiful orangish-yellow. I waited on the boat’s deck, patiently, yet impatiently as well, for the perfect moment. I wanted the photograph to reflect the peace and tranquility I felt, and for that, I must wait.

The previous days filled us with sailing adventures, but tonight, we anchored in Frederick Sound. The plan was to spend the next couple of days here to photograph whales, but this evening was all about resting and recharging. And, of course, enjoying the moonrise.

Finally, when the moon was perfectly positioned, I created the Frederick Moon. Even today I can feel the peace and tranquility of that fantastic evening.
