The day had been a quiet one, overall. The morning had started out with all of the Teton range  blanketed in a layer of heavy fog, which not only hid the mountains, but contributed to a very quiet morning. Somehow the fog seemed to keep the cold winter morning at bay, and it felt warmer that the thermometer said it was. That was fine with me, for as usual, I prefer to be warm and comfortable. Alas, in the winter months, that is not the case, so when I find a pleasant morning I enjoy the moment wholeheartedly.

As the day worn on in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, the fog began to gradually drift away and break up, inch by inch revealing a sunny winter’s day. A few high clouds lingered around the mountains, perhaps in a bid to keep them company, before the afternoon breeze pushed them away, too.

In the meantime, the Snake River flowed lazily by. It was in no hurry, and despite the January chill, this portion remained free of ice. It meanders quite a bit in this area, making a picturesque scene absolutely stunning.

Teton Afternoon is the perfect moment in time as the last wisps of fog clear the range, the clouds linger for just a bit, and the sun takes away the winter’s chill.
