Eagle River

The Eagle River flows through Colorado, sometimes serenely, and sometimes swiftly, but always beautifully. From its beginnings as the East Fork and South Fork creeks merge together, to its confluence with the Colorado River, it exemplifies a Colorado whitewater river. Throughout its entire 60 mile length, it runs through picturesque countryside, becoming part of the beauty itself.

I became absolutely fascinated by this river. There is something about it that tugs at my heartstrings, and try as I might, I cannot explain my fascination with it. It just calls to me in a way that few rivers have. I transversed almost its entire length, looking at it, examining it, feeling its cool waters upon my fingers, and marveling in its stretches of magnificence. Although it runs through several smaller towns, every time it emerges from civilization it just becomes more wondrous.

This small stretch is just outside of Minturn, Colorado, and it is a section that touched me deeper than any other. I wanted to make a photograph that let me feel its raw, sublime power as it runs towards its end, yet also lets me know that it provides life and sustenance to all who grace its shores. Every time I look at this photograph, I am taken back to that river bank, and there is nowhere else I would rather be.
