Canyonlands Corral

Deep in the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park, Utah, lies an old corral. It isn’t used anymore, that much is evident. It is in a state of complete disrepair, and one glance will tell you that it hasn’t been used in a very long time.

Who built the corral, and why, are now long forgotten in the history of the land. Soon enough, the land will finish swallowing all remains of it, and no one will be left to ponder its fate.

Today, the snow covers the landscape, further obscuring it. The clouds in the skies race overhead, intent on their story, and not concerned with the goings-on of a broken down construct of man. Heavier, darker clouds will come in behind these with more snow, and further hide it, and perhaps the weight of this new snow will break off another piece, hastening the inevitable decay.

The pace of nature might be slow, but it is also inexorable. It will always win out in the end, which is, I think, just as how it should be. After all, when you are done with something, you should put it away, and nature is merely cleaning up.
