Archangel Cascade, or as it is more commonly known, Archangel Falls is one of the most picturesque spots in Zion National Park, Utah. The Virgin River flows serenely over gentle sandstone shelves, forming a seemingly endless series of tiny cascades. Taken together, they form a stunning sight.

This section of the Virgin River flows through a fairly deep canyon, and the riverbed is completely full of rocks. Not your small, ordinary, run-of-the-mill rocks, but large boulders that look as if giants didn’t pick up their toys when they were done playing with them. Although there are countless small falls along this stretch of the river, this cascade gathers most of the attention.

All told, the cascades are only about fifteen feet high. The water flowing over them varies by the season, with the spring runoff seeing a significantly higher flow than later on in the year. No matter what time of year, however, this cascade is magical and captures your attention.

The Virgin River might not be the mightiest river, but when it flows through the canyons it sure is beautiful. Amazing things are around us, if only we know where to look.
